Processed food
New Zealand is known all over the world for its seafood, meat, dairy, wine, and other food products. Processed foods are a smaller but fast-growing part of New Zealand exports. MPI helps exporters meet the requirements of overseas markets.
Exporter responsibilities
Food exporters have responsibilities to make sure the food they sell is safe to eat and meets all applicable food standards and requirements. They also have to:
- comply with the relevant export eligibility requirements
- report to MPI if their products do not meet New Zealand food standards or are refused entry by a destination country
- keep the right records.
