MAF appoints Deputy Director-General

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) Director-General Murray Sherwin today announced the appointment of Larry Fergusson to the position of Deputy Director-General of MAF.

Larry Fergusson is currently MAF's Assistant Director-General Policy. He takes up his new position shortly.

Murray Sherwin said that the position of Deputy Director-General was a new role within MAF.

"This new role will take overall responsibility for MAF's corporate functions - Human Resources, IT, Finance, Communications, Legal, Administration and related functions. Larry Fergusson will take particular responsibility for driving the development and implementation of MAF's new corporate strategic planning and budgeting framework, and will deputise for me as required," Murray Sherwin said.

"Larry brings to the new role a detailed knowledge of MAF and its business, strong strategic leadership and an ability to drive and facilitate performance improvement. I look forward to working closely with him."

A qualified barrister and solicitor, Larry Fergusson joined MAF in 1985 as an Assistant Office Solicitor. His career within MAF has included the senior roles of Director Legal Services, Director Corporate Finance and Acting Director-General in addition to his current role as Assistant Director-General Policy. Prior to joining MAF, Larry worked in legal services roles for the State Services Commission and Ministry of Transport.
