MAF investigation into alleged illegal export of dairy products continues

14 December 2001

MAF’s investigation into allegations of illegal export of dairy products has continued over the past few weeks with the team gathering and examining evidence, MAF Food’s Director of Dairy Products, Tim Knox, said today.

The allegations of illegal export of dairy products were bought to MAF's attention by the New Zealand Dairy Board in September and have triggered an investigation by MAF's enforcement arm.

MAF's investigation is focussed on allegations that dairy products were exported without the required permit issued in accordance with the Dairy Board Act. MAF is also investigating the possibility of offences under the Dairy Industry Act and the Animal Products Act.

Mr Knox said the investigation was complex and would take some time to complete.

“MAF is following a systematic information-gathering process. We are working our way through a thorough investigative process and will continue to do so until we have reached a conclusion,” Mr Knox said.
