Round four of fight against moth pest completed

11 April 2002

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's fourth targeted aerial spraying operation against the painted apple moth in west Auckland was completed late this morning.

With almost perfect weather conditions - low winds and no rain - MAF managed to finish the 580 hectare spray zone in two consecutive mornings.

The painted apple moth targeted aerial spraying programme supports an intensive ground spraying operation and is centred on suburbs in parts of Te Atatu South, Glendene, Kelston and the Waikumete Cemetery. Parts of the Avondale Pensinsula and low-lying land alongside the north-western motorway between the Te Atatu and Waterview on ramps are also in the zone.

The fifth aerial spraying operation will be scheduled to start in about three weeks' time.
