Strategic Intentions 2018–2023 builds on the previous Strategic Intentions 2015–2020. It also sets out how MPI will deliver on government priorities, as well as cross-agency and primary sector initiatives.
Statements of Intent
The statement of intent sets out our key challenges and opportunities associated with our export goal, and details how these factors will shape MPI's work programme.

This is the first Statement of Intent (SOI) for the new Ministry for Primary Industries. The SOI is one way through which we articulate and help the organisation to set its direction over the year ahead. It is a legal and public articulation of what we are going to be focusing on to help the primary industries to be successful.

Statement of Intent 2013-2018
The Statement of Intent (SOI) is a key element of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) public accountability narrative. At a high level it signals the benefit that MPI is seeking to achieve for the primary sector and for all New Zealanders. The SOI sets out key challenges and opportunities associated with MPI’s Export Double goal and details how these factors will shape MPI’s work programmes and capability development over the next five years.

The Statement of Intent (SOI) sets out what the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) will do over the next five years to achieve its vision of Growing and Protecting New Zealand. SOI takes into account New Zealand’s dynamic trading environment and the Government’s goals of building a more productive and competitive economy, as well as delivering better public services.

- Lead within Government, with the primary industries and across communities
- Increase our focus on customers.
- Embed the internal conditions for outstanding performance
