Competency standards for regulated persons
The MPI Halal Notices contain certain New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) standard competency requirements for halal assessment and approval personnel (halal auditors), halal issuing officers (halal certifiers) and companies’ halal quality assurance officers.

Halal accreditation body
If an Approved Halal Organisation (AHO) is accredited, it means the AHO is following the quality manuals and meeting the standards.
To get accredited, an AHO must meet ISO/IEC 17065.
The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) is the accreditation body. JAS-ANZ assesses AHOs to see if they meet the standard.
New Zealand Food Safety (part of MPI) is the regulator for this.
We recommend that AHOs wanting accreditation complete the "Introduction to ISO/IEC production certification" training course. It's designed to help AHOs understand what they need to do to get accredited. The course is run by JAS-ANZ.
