Secondary meat processing under the Food Act 2014

If you process meat beyond slaughter and butchery, for example, a retail butcher and smallgoods producer, you're a secondary meat processor. Secondary meat processors must follow the Food Act 2014.

Defining secondary meat processors

If you process animal product at any stage beyond primary processing (which is defined as slaughter and dressing), then you are considered to be a secondary processor. Retail butchers and smallgoods processors are examples of secondary meat processors.
