Research and development investment and related initiatives are supporting the development of health claims for value-added foods.
National Science Challenges
MPI is working with the National Science Challenges initiative — in particular the High-Value Nutrition challenge — which focuses on investment in scientific research that has major and enduring benefits for New Zealand. Initiatives of this Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) programme include the development of high-value foods with validated health benefits.
MBIE is also investing in a New Zealand-Japan research collaboration on 'functional foods'. This programme seeks proposals for development of food products and processing methods to create value-added food products.
New Zealand Inc
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) is supportive of health claims for value-added foods as part of its New Zealand Inc strategies.
New Zealand Food Innovation Network (NZFIN)
The Food Innovation Network is supporting the growth and development of New Zealand food and beverage businesses of all sizes by providing facilities and the expertise needed to develop new products and progress from idea to commercial success.
Primary Growth Partnership
MPI's Primary Growth Partnership initiative works closely with a wide range of New Zealand primary industries, some of which focus on health claims for high value foods.
