The Act gives MPI the power to issue notices. Notices cover a range of legal requirements for businesses producing, processing, selling, storing, transporting, importing, and exporting animal and dairy products.

Notice regarding list of common, Maori and scientific names of fish and seafood. These names are used on labels for food for human consumption.
This introduction is not part of the Animal Products Notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect. For the purposes of safeguarding assurances provided by New Zealand, this notice sets verification requirements and frequencies in relation to animal products for export.

Animal Product National Microbiological Database Specifications Notice 2018, effective from 26/02/2018, clarifies some procedures and makes minor corrections to text.
The prime purpose of this Notice is establishing a regulated control scheme for the control of specified substances in food producing animals, which is necessary or desirable to meet overseas market access requirements that have been notified or made available under section 60 of the Act.
This notice specifies the requirements that must be followed in order to receive an official assurance to accompany exported animal material or animal products within the scope of the Animal Products Act 1999 (the Act).
The purpose of this notice is to exempt animal material and animal products certain requirements in the New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002 where importing country requirements differ from New Zealand requirements.
DPC 3: Animal Products (Dairy): Approved Criteria for the Manufacturing of Dairy Material and Product.
On 1 September 2016, this Animal Products Notice revokes and replaces the Animal Products Notice: Official Assurances Specifications – Dairy Material and Dairy Products, which was issued on 27 August 2014.
