Substances generally recognised as safe
MPI maintains a list of substances that can be used as animal feed additives because they are 'generally recognised as safe' (GRAS) when used for that purpose.
Under the ACVM (Exemptions and Prohibited Substances) Regulations 2011, to ensure that your product is exempt from registration, you should confirm that any feed additive in your animal feed or pet food is 'generally recognised as safe' (GRAS).
You can have confidence in using the substances on the list below to formulate products, as long as you use them in accordance with the conditions specified for GRAS substances.
If you want to include a substance on the GRAS register, use the following form:
- Application for alteration of the GRAS register [DOC, 207 KB]
