Exporting during the COVID-19 emergency

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is making some temporary changes to exporting processes and systems. These are to ensure we can best support your business during the COVID-19 response. Find out about the changes.

Our priorities during COVID-19

MPI’s priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone during the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic. This includes ensuring our vital primary production sectors can operate safely.

We're working hard to keep exports going while reducing the chances of the coronavirus spreading.

Workplace operations at COVID-19 alert levels

If you have any queries about verification, contact your current verifier, or email the relevant MPI team:

Can businesses sell export-intended foods on the domestic market?

If the export-intended products meet New Zealand domestic requirements, these are permitted to be sold in New Zealand. If the products do not meet New Zealand domestic requirements, but are safe and suitable with basic labelling information in English available, producers can contact MPI to discuss their options by emailing foodactinfo@mpi.govt.nz.

We are working with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and other ministries and agencies to provide updates and advice for exporters.
