The annual report for the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committe (NAWAC) from 1 January to 31 December 2017. During 2017, the committee’s work focused on reviewing codes of welfare and the development of regulations following the implementation of
amendments in May 2015 to the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
New Zealand’s Deepwater and middle-depth fisheries (deepwater fisheries) predominantly occur in waters beyond the 12 nautical mile (NM) limit of the territorial sea. Deepwater fishing activity occurs out to, and beyond, the 200NM limit of New Zealand’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
