Gemfish (Rexea solandri) catches in the southern stock (SKI 3 and SKI 7) declined markedly after the early 1990s, with a slight increase in catch in the early 2000s. About 30 t a year was reported from SKI 3 after the mid-2000s. Annual catches from SKI 7 were close to the TACC of 300 t after 2002-03. No trends were evident in large vessel or small vessel SKI 7 CPUE indices for 1999-2000 to 2012-13. Observer and trawl survey data from SKI 7 may provide the best resource for monitoring gemfish.
