Exporting live plants and laboratory plant products

Te kawe atu i ngā tipu ora me ngā hua tipu whare pūtaiao
New Zealand exports a wide range of plant products – from whole plants and nursery stock to microorganisms. MPI helps exporters meet the phytosanitary (plant health) requirements when sending horticultural, specimen, or laboratory products overseas.

Responsibilities of plant product exporters

Exporters of plant products from New Zealand are responsible for:

  • meeting the destination country's requirements such as phytosanitary requirements
  • keeping the right records.

Who to contact

MPI uses authorised Independent Verification Agencies (IVAs) to provide information for exporters, including destination country requirements, ePhyto requests and verification, phytosanitary inspection, and pest surveys.

If you have questions about phytosanitary requirements, contact an IVA.
