Trawl fisheries taking gemfish in SKI 1 and SKI 2 1989–90 to 2012–13 are described based on commercial catch and effort data. They were characterised by high levels of catch in the 1990s which caused strong drops in abundance and a consequent 80% drop in TACC by the early 2000s. Standardised catch per unit effort analyses were conducted on 10 fishery definitions, with the mixed target species fishery (including gemfish), amalgamated to daily effort strata, accepted as an index of abundance.
