New Zealand fisheries taking rig (SPO) are described for 1989–90 to 2014–15, based on commercial catch and effort data. Thirteen commercial fisheries (8 setnet, 5 bottom trawl), which have largely overlapping spatial definitions, are identified, defined by location and method of capture. CPUE analyses in these fisheries were used to estimate changes in abundance. In general, the bottom trawl fisheries showed increasing abundance trends while the setnet fisheries tended to decline.
