An assessment of hake in the Sub-Antarctic section of HAK 1 is presented for the 2011–12 fishing year. Stock status is not well known in absolute terms. The stock has declined throughout the 1990s, with the decline driven by poor recruitment rather than fishing pressure, and there are probably no current sustainability issues. The spawning stock is estimated to be about 52% B0, with a B0 of about 95 000 t. The stock is probably being well monitored by the November-December trawl survey.
