Proposed Animal Products Risk Management Programme (RMP) Template for Transport of Animal Material and Animal Products

Update – 9 April 2019

Final RMP issued

The new Transport RMP template has been published for animal material/products but it does not apply to bulk unpackaged dairy material. The new template provides an option for the transport of non-animal material/products (that is products made under the Food Act 2014). Those dairy operators who are using the existing dairy transport template do not need to change to this new template.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) asked for your feedback on a proposed Draft Animal Products Risk Management Programme (RMP) Template for Transport of Animal Material and Animal Products.

This new draft template would apply to operators that transport animal material and animal products, including packaged dairy material and dairy products. It was to replace the existing:

The RMP template would be pre-approved on how a transport operator meets regulatory requirements. This would simplify and reduce the cost of developing an RMP.

Operators who wish to transport non-animal material or non-animal products could use this template for an RMP provided they met the requirements and had the additional processes evaluated, under the Animal Products Act 1999.

Submissions closed at 5pm on 22 March 2019.

Your feedback

MPI invited you to comment on the draft template. MPI was particularly interested in your feedback on these questions:

  1. Is the level of detail appropriate for the transport sector?
  2. Are the technical aspects correct?
  3. Are the procedures practical and achievable for the transport sector?
