Proposed requirements for the inspection of imported and returned animal material and animal products intended for re-export with official assurances
Your views sought
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking your views on the proposals set out in this discussion document and the proposed Notice. The proposals relate to requirements for the inspection and clearance of the following classes of animal material and animal products:
- imported animal material and animal products of foreign origin intended for re-export from New Zealand with official assurances
- returned New Zealand animal material and animal products intended for re-export from with official assurances.
What's being proposed?
The 2 classes of animal material and animal products that are the subject of this consultation were, at some point, handled or processed outside of New Zealand's regulatory system. As such, those animal material and animal products are generally not eligible for export with official assurances. This is because official assurance eligibility is conditional on processing being carried out only within New Zealand premises operating under a risk management programme (RMP) registered under the Animal Products Act 1999.
MPI is proposing a way for admitting these classes of animal material and animal products into the New Zealand official assurance chain so they could be eligible for export with official assurances.
