The new rules relate to commonly imported Cucurbitaceae seeds (for example, squash, pumpkin and cucumber).
The changes have been made to target the Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus disease (CGMMV). This is a disease that is increasing in distribution worldwide, and is causing severe yield losses (up to 16%) in susceptible species.
The new requirements come into effect on 1 December 2014.
