Sustainable Land Management and Climate Change (SLMACC)

The Sustainable Land Management and Climate Change (SLMACC) research programme helps the agriculture and forestry sectors with challenges arising from climate change. Learn about the programme’s priorities and the projects it supports.

MPI regularly publishes reports produced by the SLMACC research programme.

In 2018, MPI published the booklet Investing in Tomorrow to celebrate 10 years of SLMACC research.

Climate issues facing farmers

The impacts of climate change are projected to intensify over the coming decades – and these impacts will be both environmental and economic. Expectations about responses to climate change and the sustainable use of resources have also increased, both domestically and internationally.

Research shows that 63% of farmers agree or strongly agree that global human activity is contributing to climate change. This is a significant increase over the past 10 years.
