Types of wine standards management plans (WSMP)
There are 3 types of WSMP:
- The integrated WSMP model: a pre-evaluated plan for managing risks during winemaking.
- The New Zealand Winegrowers WSMP Code of Practice v3: an industry developed pre-evaluated plan for managing risks during grape winemaking.
- A custom WSMP: a plan developed by an individual business or an organisation, such as an industry body, to meet their needs.
A custom WSMP belongs to the business or organisation who created it, so they control who can use it. If you choose to develop your own custom WSMP, you will then need to get your WSMP independently evaluated to ensure it meets the applicable requirements.
To register the integrated WSMP model, complete all steps.
To register a custom WSMP, start from Step 2.
To register a New Zealand Winegrowers WSMP Code of Practice v3, contact New Zealand Wine Growers at advocacy@nzwine.com
Ask them for a copy of their WSMP Code of Practice v3 and apply this to your wine business, and then continue from step 2.
