Voluntary emissions returns status

Check the current status of MPI processing of voluntary emissions returns (VERs) from post-1989 forestry participants.

About the data

MPI provides this data to help market participants understand New Zealand Unit (NZU) supply in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

Delay between processing and transfer/notice issue

The number of units to be transferred or surrendered is based on MPI processing of VERs. There can be a small delay between processing and the Environmental Protection Authority's transfer of NZUs or issue of surrender/repayment notices through the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register.

VER processing status

Post-1989 forestry participants had until 30 June 2019 to complete their voluntary emissions returns for the period of 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

Data may change

The number of post-1989 forestry participants required to submit a VER may change as MPI works to resolve compliance matters relating to:

  • transmissions of interest – when forest land or rights are transferred to someone else
  • the outcome of reviews of forest eligibility.
