Dairy is New Zealand's biggest export earner – worth about $19 billion a year. MPI plays a critical role in ensuring dairy exports meet New Zealand food safety standards and the requirements of our overseas customers.

Exporter responsibilities

When exporting products from New Zealand you're responsible for:

  • ensuring your products meet relevant New Zealand standards
  • complying with the relevant export eligibility requirements
  • reporting any export non-conformances
  • keeping the right records.
