Paper No: 2015/39. MPI is seeking views on changes to the regulatory oversight of fertilisers and fertiliser additives under the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) Act 1997 and the ACVM (Exemptions and Prohibited Substances) Regulations 2011 (ACVM (E&PS) Regs). Currently, fertilisers are exempt from registration under the ACVM Act via ACVM (E&PS) Regs. This discussion document identifies some weaknesses (problem identification) with the current level of regulatory oversight, and discusses three options including a more detailed discussion on MPI’s preferred option.
