Download Management controls for hagfish pots

This paper seeks feedback from tangata whenua, stakeholders, the fishing industry and other interested parties on management controls for the hagfish fishery. MPI proposes to set a minimum number of escapes holes each of a minimum diameter, under section 11 of the Fisheries Act 1996. MPI considers that the proposed management controls for hagfish pots are necessary to ensure sustainability until hagfish can be introduced into the QMS, and to minimise discarding of juveniles over the long-term.
