This study assessed the introduction of formal management procedures in New Zealand paua fisheries in quota management area PAU 5. The assessment included control rules proposed by stakeholders based on management objectives that were simulation-tested in a paua assessment model. The management procedure evaluation showed the proposed control rules were a robust starting point for managing these fisheries, and reduced productivity had the greatest impact on the performance of the control rules.
