The 2017 Foveaux Strait oyster surveys found Bonamia mortality between 2012 and 2017 reduced recruit-sized oysters by 42.6%, pre-recruits by 59.4%, and small oysters by 40.9% in the stock area. In 2017, prevalence of Bonamia infection was low (5.4%), mostly fatal infections. Bonamia mortality declined to 5%, at a level not recorded since 2005. Non-fatal infections were less than 1%, suggesting low Bonamia mortality in 2018. Settler densities increased. The fishery is expected to rebuild.
