Catch-sampling of the purse seine fishery for jack mackerel in FMA 1 (primarily in the Bay of Plenty) from 2006–07 to 2008–09 showed the catch to be strongly dominated by Trachurus novaezelandiae. While the sampled landings represented the fishery well, the catch is not representative of the population.
