The report characterises blue mackerel (Scomber australasicus) fisheries up to 2009-10. The largest catches are by purse-seine vessels in EMA 1. Catches by midwater trawl in EMA 7 are also important. The catch in EMA 2 and EMA 3 was very small and the TACC was not fully caught. The inter-annual variation in catches is thought to reflect market demand. The CPUE indices in EMA 7 showed a declining trend through to the early 2000s, and then remained relatively flat.
