Assessments of hake off the west coast of South Island (HAK 7) and on Chatham Rise (HAK 4 and part of HAK 1) are presented for the 2012–13 fishing year. Chatham Rise hake was fished down throughout the 1990s, but is currently estimated to be about 47% B0 following a recent upturn driven by a strong 2002 year class. The stock is probably being well monitored by the summer trawl survey.
