Pipis were surveyed Mair and Marsden Bank in 2010. The Mair Bank pipi biomass was estimated at around 4452 t and a tag-recapture experiment estimated Von Bertalanffy parameters of L∞ = 79.5 and K= 0.19. Estimates of Maximum Constant Yield and Current Annual Yield were higher than the total allowable commercial catch and recent reported landings. Marsden Bank had extremely dense patches of pipis and the absolute biomass of the bank was estimated to be around 973 t.
