Striped marlin are caught by recreational fishers and surface longliners in New Zealand in summer and autumn. Commercial catch and effort from mandatory reporting and observer records were analysed for signals of relative abundance. A long time series of catch records from sport fishing clubs is summarised and a standardized recreational charter boat CPUE index was developed. All indices suffer from limited spatial coverage but all show a declining trend since the 1990s.
