The abundance of black oreo in area OEO 3A was estimated from an acoustic survey carried out between 17 November and 1 December 2011 using San Waitaki. It was the fourth in the series starting in 1997. The total estimated abundance was 242 500 t with a c.v. of 25%, which was within the specified target CV (20–30%). The 2011 abundance estimate was substantially larger than the 2002 and 2006 survey estimates, but was similar to the 1997 value.
