Download FAR 2014/27 Fishery characterisation and catch-per-unit-effort analyses for sea perch (Helicolenus spp.) in New Zealand, 1989–90 to 2009–10

The majority of sea perch is caught as bycatch in bottom trawl fisheries targeting species such as hoki, red cod and barracouta. In this study we found evidence which supports the hypothesis that three species of sea perch occur, and are caught in, New Zealand waters. Two catch per unit effort standardisations were done for each of the Canterbury coast and the Chatham Rise. In both cases, there was within area correspondence among CPUE and trawl survey indices of biomass.
