The trevally catch from TRE 7 is predominantly taken by the inshore trawl fishery along the west coast of the North Island. Recent catches have declined due to operational changes in the fishery.



The stock assessment for TRE 7 was updated and refined for 2026, incorporating the recent annual commercial and recreational catches, length and age compositions, commercial CPUE indices and Kaharoa trawl survey indices.



The base assessment model estimates that spawning biomass was maintained at about the default target biomass level (40% SB0) during the 1980s and 1990s. From 2000, spawning biomass increased to above the target level and current (2024–25) biomass (SB2025) is estimated to be well above the target. The current level of fishing mortality is estimated to be well below the reference (FSB40%) level.
