Standardised reports of the quantity and representativeness of observer sampling were developed for all

deepwater stocks, and the key fisheries for each of these stocks. The reports are designed to be updated

annually, with the methods described here.

Use of the observer reports will assist in planning stock assessment projects and identifying situations

where further sampling is required. The reports should also promote more efficient tendering and

delivery of stock assessment research because researchers will have a clearer picture of the available

data.

A separate trip-level reporting template was also implemented, to assist the Observer Programme with

monitoring of observer sampling at a finer scale.
