The Animal Welfare (Glueboard Traps) Order 2009 prohibits the sale and use of rodent glueboards in New Zealand from 1 January 2015. Ministerial approval may be granted where there is no viable alternative and it is in the public interest. This report provides a review of available methods that could replace glueboard traps for rodent detection and control. It concludes that some alternatives have potential, but that comparing glueboards and alternative devices is complex for both technical and animal welfare reasons. Research gaps are identified.
