This research continues the MPI Aquaculture Unit work programme on the social effects
of aquaculture. MPI commissioned research on a case study in Southland to describe what has or what is occurring in social terms as a result of the aquaculture industry’s activities. This research was intended to fill a gap in the knowledge base about the social effects of aquaculture development and thereby contribute to informing more complete assessments of future aquaculture developments.
