Best practice to standardise trawl survey methodologies and calibrate fishing units under changing vessel or gear scenarios is reviewed. A fishing unit is standardised when it adheres to clear instructions on how the vessel will operate, and how the gear is constructed and fished. Two fishing units are calibrated when the ratio of their catchabilities is known. International scientists involved in carrying out surveys or using survey data provided their experiences and views on best practice.
