How to use this dashboard
This dashboard shows economic indicators for trade of forestry products around the world and in New Zealand. It focuses on export and import values for forestry products.
You can use the dashboard to:
- help understand forestry world trade
- identify international competition
- find out New Zealand's comparative advantage for products
- reveal export statistics for countries that might help you explore export growth opportunities.

Source for the data used in the forestry world trade dashboard
The data comes from the International trade data set provided by Harvard University’s Growth Lab. It covers trade from 2012 to 2023. This data set is useful for comparing world trade as it contains data from many countries. The data set uses HS (Harmonised System) 2012 codes at level 6. All values are in US dollars.
The dashboard will be updated with data for 2024 in the first half of 2026.

Product categories come from MPI’s Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries (SOPI) report.
Other sources of international trade data
The overseas merchandise trade data set shows New Zealand’s international trade. The SOPI data and report use this data set.
