About this guidance
This page should be read together with its companion page: Exporting imported food
Importing food for export is different from importing food for the New Zealand market. To maintain eligibility for export, you must meet New Zealand's import requirements and any requirements of your destination market.
Some export requirements begin during the import process, so decisions made when the food arrives in New Zealand can affect whether it can later be exported.
To export imported food successfully, food must be imported and handled correctly from the time it enters New Zealand.
Read both pages before you start to understand your responsibilities and the requirements across the import and export process.
