What our fees cover
We calculate fees on a cost-recovery basis. MPI will charge you for costs associated with testing your sample. You may also be charged extra fees for:
- packaging and handling for subcontracted tests
- transport for subcontracted tests
- laboratory equipment
- after hours work.
Note, not all the fees on this page may apply to you and there could be other charges not listed here – like transport, storage, treatment, or other laboratory costs.

Price changes from November 2022
In June 2022, Biosecurity New Zealand asked for feedback about proposed changes to AHL test pricing. The new fees came into effect from 7 November 2022.
