3 June 2026 – Changes to fees and charges
New and changed service fees and charges are in effect from 1 July 2026. These include:
- a reduced annual charge from $14.90 to $10.28 per hectare
- the introduction of a ‘mature forest’ exemption where ‘mature forests’ receive a 45% reduction to the annual charge for 2 mandatory emissions return periods. After this, no annual charge will apply.
- updated pricing for all existing service fees
- the introduction of 8 new service fees.
These changes were made following a review of cost recovery settings for forestry in the ETS and public consultation. Find out more below:

24 April 2026 – ETS cost recovery annual report 2024–25
The first ETS cost recovery annual report outlines cost recovery settings, revenue, and expenditure associated with operating the ETS for forestry for the 2024–25 financial year. It reports on how fees and annual charges collected through the cost recovery provisions in legislation and regulations were spent.
