What is a phytosanitary certificate?
Some overseas markets require a phytosanitary certificate for plants, plant products and other regulated items like forestry products and used agricultural machinery.
A phytosanitary certificate confirms that your goods meet the plant health requirements of the importing country.
Do you need a phytosanitary certificate?
To see if you need a phytosanitary certificate, check the Importing Countries Phytosanitary Requirements (ICPR) for your destination market. Requirements can vary between markets.
If the ICPR doesn’t mention your product, check with your importer or importing agent about what you need to do.

How to get a phytosanitary certificate
To get a phytosanitary certificate, your consignment must meet the overseas phytosanitary requirements as stated in the relevant ICPR.
You can request a certificate directly using MPI Trade Certification after you log in to MyMPI. (Fees and charges apply for using the electronic certification system).
How to use MPI Trade Certification
Alternatively, you can get an Independent Verification Agency (IVA) or another organisation to obtain phytosanitary certification on your behalf. Note that IVAs will also charge a fee.
Authorised IVAs for plant exports
As well as a phytosanitary certificate, you might also need an import permit. Requirements vary between markets. Ask your importer or importing agent to confirm what you need to do.
